Hi

I'm Gerald, a 68 year old retired mechanical engineer from Cape Town, South Africa. A hobby is roadtripping and making Youtubes (#quickrealroad) for watching when I am to old to get out. Have had tiny bit of experience of Basic and PIC processors. My mission is to automate the taking of videos using a more intelligent remote control than what is available off the shelf for GoPros. So far I have hacked a Yoctop with a PIC processor, but now I need to go to another level of controlling 3 GoPro Heros6 and 8 (front, left & right of car) individually. The off the shelf remote options simply fire all cameras simultaneously, while I don't want junk footage by firing a camera looking into the sun (for example).

I am pursuing 2 options:
1. An ESP32 with all the volunteer stuff at Github
2. A RPi3B with a proprietary App (Camera Tools for Heros)

I have a tiny bit of experience with ESP32 and the Arduino IDE for it, but the volunteer Github stuff doesn't do the Bluetooth and WiFi as as the Camera Tools for Heros on the RPi3. I have never worked with the GPIO's on a RPi before, in fact I have only been a RPi owner for 2 weeks.

I will start another thread explaining where I am stuck with the RPI now
