I'd like to know about Proxmox too.How are you finding the performance of Proxmox on the Pi5 (16GB)?The 500+ is an absolute dream. There is no more speed that I need right now. My old Pi5 16GB is now running proxmox with a stack of server VMs and my 500+ does the desktop work.
Laptop arrives next year and I will sorted for a travelling Pi. It’s all here!
Right now 16GB DDR5 DIMMs in the retail market cost from US$ 150 to 250 depending on brand. In comparison a 16GB Pi 5 is $145 and currently on sale at Micro Center for $140.
While RAM prices are inflated by rapid data-center buildout funded by the get-rich-quick schemes of venture capital, it's worth noting that online retail did not disappear after the dot-com bubble burst. If AI follows a similar pattern, there will be a period of consolidation after which one giant company will dominate.
Although I'm unhappy about the price of RAM, it's quite nice how powerful and accessible free AI is right now due to the strong competition.
Since my conversations with the free chatbots are being used to further tune them, I try to spread my time between the different ones in hope they will all stay competitive for as long as possible.
