Im wondering if there is an issue with the software download. I am having the same issue and first unboxed my pi 500 this week. I'll link my discussion post where i explained my original troubleshooting. As of now I have also tried using balenaetcher to download the full zip file and it is no longer available. I'm only seeing the overlays folder when checking on my windows pc. I've tried different brand new microsd cards, using the USB reader and the microSD reader, fully erasing and reformatting.
My next troubleshoot will be to install a different OS on a brand NEW microsd card and see what happens.I purchased a Pi500, and when i first booted up with included pi microsd card, no options were available except logout and run. I could not open command line. I hard reboot the Microsd card through connecting a ethernet cord, once rebooted I am able to get through system setup, and to "launch" then its stuck on a black screen with white cursor. I cannot type or click. CTL SHFT F2 brings up login and it will not take my credentials, it does not say login failed, just loops back to login. Ive tried pi/raspberry and root/root and no luck. I also formatted and installed raspberry pi on a brand new microsd card and get stuck on the same place.
