Argon One UP Kickstarter campaign finished with 979 backers, which if I take a guess that some of those backed for more than one laptop - around 1000 units are ordered.
I think that this answers a question and serves as a useful piece of market research. The device was well publicised on tech blogs, videos etc but even allowing for people being wary of crowdfunding campaigns, the market for such a device isn't really large enough to support a mass produced product. Happily, though, this is a decent result by Kickstarter standards, which serves niche requirements very well.
