tbf to Raspberry Pi, I don't think they can be expected to know about all of the forks made by the community. I mean, even in the A history of GPIO usage on Raspberry Pi devices, and current best practices document it's stated that GrazerComputerClub/WiringPi is the currently maintained version. It hasn't seen an update in over a year, while WiringPi/WiringPi is 144 commits and a full major version ahead.... the existence of community maintained translation layers.
Just a quick clarification regarding the WiringPi fork of GC2 you're referencing: this repository is just a fork of the original WiringPi, with some minor modifications specifically for Banana Pi boards. It hasn’t been updated in last years and is no longer actively maintained.
Please vistit WiringPi/WiringPi for the one and only WiringPi version!
