General discussion • Re: Free HW for development purposes (OpenWrt)

Hello,

Let me introduce myself first: I'm the OpenWrt developer who has added support for most of the RPi devices in the past years.

When the Raspberry Pi 5 was announced and considering that half of YouTube and other tech websites got an alpha unit for marketing purposes, I tried contacting the Raspberry Pi Foundation by different means to get one for OpenWrt development, but I was ignored and got no response.
Is there any official point of contact established for this purpose?
Does the Raspberry Pi Foundation send free units for development or are free units only provided for marketing purposes?

More info: https://forum.openwrt.org/t/pi-in-the-sky-v/172912/66

Best regards,
Álvaro.
As I understand it, Raspberry Pi Ltd decide who to send test units to. I suspect this is on the basis of having demonstrated that they could provide useful feedback to them before the product launches. I would not expect them to send out yet-to-be-announced products just for marketing purposes, but anything's possible.
