General discussion • Re: Should I get a Raspberry Pi Pico or a Pi Zero?

Is WiFi useful to you? Now or in the future?

I had a Zero and for the second experiment needed WiFi. I bought a Zero W then the Zero 2 W was released at nearly the same price as the Zero W. Sold the Zero and Zero W. Bought Zero 2. The Zero 2 runs 64 bit and fast enough for a GUI.

I use the GUI to administer the Zero 2. All development for the Zero 2 is on a Pi 4 or 5. The GUI is for configuration changes and browsing logs.

They only downside is 2.4 GHz instead of 5 GHz as 2.4 is overloaded in our area. The Pi 4 with 1 GB is double the cost of the Zero 2 but has 5 GHz and Ethernet.

WiFi means I can put the Zero 2 in a waterproof case for use outdoors. I may use it to monitor wildlife when I get the right camera.
Hey,
Sorry, I didn't see your post. I ended up getting the Zero 2 W, instead of the Pico. I already had some Pico stuff, and when I posted this, I was looking to expand my collection of components to make more projects! Here's what I ended up getting:

- Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W
- Pimoroni Inky pHAT
- Camera Module 3
- Pimoroni Blinkt!
- A lot of other accessories for the Zero 2 W (case, extra camera cables, adapter kit, etc)

I'm posting this from my Pi 400

Edit: I do use wifi on the Zero 2 W for SSH, and installing software.
