The 16G pi with initial bootloader had lower sdram performance than existing 2G/4G/8G models. Also, On the 16gb's blog, it refers to a January update specifically for the 16gb that tunes memory and performance.
Is this the SDRAM tuning tweak mentioned above? If so, will it soon be available on the 4 GB and 8 GB models?
In general the jedec timings for sdram require more time to be spent doing refresh on larger devices, and so lower performance.
We did get the go ahead from Micron to use the faster refresh settings on the 16G device which are in the January bootloader update.
There is no corresponding change for 4G/8G devices which already have the improved timing.
You might want to read the first post here. There have been numerous updates to improve sdram performance over the last year.
thank you all, it makes sense.
Playing catchup, so the 4g/8g already got the improved timing since october?
That’s fast! and the gap in speed between the 4g and 8g is now mitigated as well ? ( see the epic thread mentioned in the numa thread ).
