As I just faced the same problem myself ... the first thing to do is to ensure you are running X not Wayland on the Pi ...
That's on Windows 10. No idea about Windows 11 - YMMV
The host name suggests it's a Pi 3B but it's actually running on a Pi 4B, Bookworm 32-bit OS, the SD Card being readied to be moved to the 3B.
The other problem used to be that it wouldn't work if screen blanking was enabled; so turn it off and it may start working.
That might not have been a black screen issue, but "worked except for not accepting keyboard or mouse input"; I can no longer remember the details only the solution which worked for me. It took me ages to find that helpful advice but I am now at a loss to know who to credit for it.
